Huge Decision

swak-my-lydiaThank you so much Tisha Marie Pelletier and Elisa Lane for adding me to this inspirational group of ladies. I wanted to take a moment and tell you about me. I was born and raised in New Rochelle NY. A very nice upper middle class suburb of NYC. At the age of 25 not sure what I wanted to do in life after a few different colleges and majors I came to AZ on vacation found a job as a Soux chef at the Holidome in Phx and stayed. Things got rough and in 2003 I found myself widowed and homeless with my middle son who was 2 years old at the time. I made a huge decision and with a little bit of help from a specific religious organization I went back to school for medical administration. I also found a spiritual program to help build me spiritually and free me from the bondage of self.
Right out of school I landed a position as a Sr surgery coordinator for a urology group in the east valley. Been there ever since. I also continue to raise my son who is now 15 and a football player at Skyline HS. I since have met the man of my dreams and had another son who is now 7 and is a mathamagician.
I was approached recently by a colleague to start selling makeup and skincare products. At first I was hesitant and thought nah that’s my thing. But then I thought oh wow what a way to meet more empowering women. So I started 💋S.W.A.K💋. And so far so good.
I am happier than I have been in years and I am having more fun than I have had in years. We fight less at home and the kids want to clean their rooms because I ask them nicely. Maybe. Lol
I am so looking forward to meeting more of you at the Holiday Hullabaloo and hearing your journey to freedom.

Tackle, Learn and Feed

Letting go of Drama and making room for Dreams. Have you ever had a dream so loud it wakes you up and inspires you to tackle the day with purpose? Today was that day for me. While looking forward to my youngest son’s senior year of High School Football, I was encouraged to dream about a way to bring community, love and happiness back into the world. As I sense the feeling of excitement I can also feel the fear of rejection. Sure I’ve planned and organized similar projects in the past but with my son now involved my heart becomes part of the game. I quickly realize what’s at stake if I don’t move forward. You must be wondering what I’m up to by now.

I call it Tackle, Learn and Feed, a program dedicated to connecting football moms and the educational community to better serve and feed the underprivileged by teaming up with local food banks in the area. The mission is simple, huddle football moms and the players from local schools and tackle the needs of the nearby food banks. Resulting in players who care. No Drama just Dream. Making a world worth living and plays worth making.

Show Them

I love the quote: “Show the readers everything, tell them nothing.” by Ernest Hemingway

Taryl Hansen owner and illustrator for Frame the Message Ink, has something to show you. She has over 25 years working in elementary and adult education and is now traveling the world while working to help people better understand and retain information. Forget the days of sitting in the crowd while doing your best to understand concepts and ideas that are being thrown at you from the stage. Now you have the opportunity to interact and engage with the message. Taryl creates a “visual masterpiece in action” while the speaker facilitator runs the meeting, conference, workshop and or planning session.

Taryl’s unique talent and skill will be available for all to see September 2016 at Tedx Fountain Hills. You will also be able to experience the art of restoring credit while Taryl works along side speaker and creator of the Color My Credit method Alisa Glutz on
October 1st for the first annual Color My Credit Expo at the Tempe Improv, for more information and tickets Click Here

In the meantime, watch for Frame the Message Ink videos and images coming soon on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

What I’ve learned from Pokemon Go

Screen Shot 2016-07-15 at 6.26.41 AM

After some hesitation, I downloaded the app. Here’s my takeaway.
1. Anything can be market research, if done properly.
2. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Try new things and only speak from experience.
3. Games that encourage movement and travel increase my happiness.
4. Embracing change can be challenging and helps me grow.
5. Winning isn’t always the goal, playing is.
Think less and play more, you might find joy in the process. Or not. It’s up to you.

Time In Time Out

How do you decide it’s time for a time out? Working in your business without time to recharge has shown to decrease creativity, enthusiasm and productivity. Are you taking a time out in order to produce more effective results? Or is the fear of missing something keeping you in?
While growing a small business has it’s needs and requirements around the clock, the fear of a time out can sometimes feel like fireworks gone wrong. This “I can’t take time off”mentality can burn anyone out and leave you taking unscheduled time off for illness before you know it. This week while discussing the need to nurture oneself, I came to the realization that it is time for a time out. And what better time for self care then on the 4th of July weekend. Although I must say  I am challenged by the idea of letting go and allowing others to watch over things, I know the time out will do me some good and create more freedom in my life. I’m now in time out.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend.

Train Your Wheels

At the young age of 4 years old, I was given my first set of skates; yes the 4 wheels of wonder not the inline skates that took over the market and still is the go to today. I got the pleasure of learning the skill of balance on the original roller rink, disco playing, and watch out for others “Roller Skates”.

This week as a colleague used the words, “I’m still on training wheels” I was brought back to the day I learned to skate and we discussed the learning curve of growing a business. Let’s take a ride and see how business relates to skating.

In business, how long can we use the “excuse” of I’m still learning? When are we ready to take on what comes and let go of the fences we so delicately hold on to or should I say cling to. I realize that not everyone has the same skill level when starting a business. Some have curiosity, imagination, determination, ruthlessness, grace, fear and anger when starting out. For me starting my first business was the same feeling I had when I decided to learn to skate. I was in love with the idea of skating. I had this vision of myself in action; the new adventure filling my heart with passion and happiness, this feeling is “Freedom”. The freedom of letting go of the guiding hand that prevents injuring and taking that chance, that first step with wide eyes is one of the best feelings I know.

Oh sure I’ve fallen, many times and with every fall I learn something new. I challenge you to let go and take a chance on you. Work on that balancing act and when you fall, know that’s part of the freedom. Become dedicated to getting up and do it better every time.

Colorful Credit

This week I got the pleasure to meet with the creator of Color My Credit, Alisa Glutz.
